The brief
The studio website had many old URLs that had built up links and search positions. Moving to a new system meant every important old URL had to lead to the matching new page, while the site itself had to be fast and easy to update without a database.
The solution
We moved the site to Astro: pages are generated in advance and sit on the server as plain HTML files, so ordinary Apache with PHP is enough for hosting, and PHP is only needed for the enquiry form.
We mapped old URLs to new ones in a table and generated 219 redirect rules in the .htaccess file from it. Before launch a script checked that no rule pointed to a missing page or captured a new URL.
The three languages are linked with hreflang tags, and the enquiry form is protected against spam. Google Analytics only switches on after the visitor consents (Consent Mode v2), so the cookie banner matches what the site actually does.
Integrations and modules
- Static Astro build on Apache + PHP hosting
- 219 redirect (301) rules in .htaccess
- hreflang for three languages
- PHP enquiry form with anti-spam
- Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2
Result
The site has run on Astro since 2026. The redirect rules were checked before launch. We are not publishing search traffic changes yet – a fair comparison needs several months of data.
What we would add with AI today
In a move like this, AI helps draft the old-to-new URL mapping from page content, leaving a person to check the doubtful pairs. After launch, AI can be set to review Search Console 404 errors every week and suggest new rules.
