Website speed optimisation
Website speed optimisation is the work that shortens page load times on phones and computers: lighter images in WebP format, fewer and smaller CSS and JavaScript files, browser caching and server settings. We have optimised our own website the same way: the home page LCP on mobile fell from 3.6 to 2.3 s, and the home page now scores 91 in PageSpeed Insights on mobile. Prices start at €80, depending on the website and the number of pages, and the initial review is free.

Who it’s for
- PageSpeed Insights shows an orange or red score for mobile, and the Core Web Vitals report in Search Console lists slow URLs.
- On a phone, the first screen only appears after a few seconds, so some visitors leave before they even see your offer.
- Your website has lots of large JPG or PNG images, sliders, videos or third-party widgets.
- You installed a caching or optimisation plugin, but the website didn't get any faster – or something stopped working.
- Your online store's category and product pages load slowly, especially for shoppers on mobile.
- You are planning Google Ads or Meta ads and don't want paid clicks wasted while visitors wait for the page to load.
When it’s not the right fit
- Your website was made with a website builder (e.g. Wix). There, the platform controls the server and code settings, so only images and content can be optimised.
- The slowness comes from a badly outdated content management system or template that can no longer be updated. Then it makes more sense to redesign or rebuild the website (from €299) and optimise the speed at the same time.
- The website is infected with malware. It needs cleaning first – malicious code is often what's slowing it down.
Included
What does website speed optimisation include?
Measurements before and after
We measure your key pages on mobile and desktop: the PageSpeed Insights score, LCP, INP, CLS and server response time. When the work is done, we measure the same pages with the same tools.
Images in WebP format
We resize and compress images, create WebP versions and set image dimensions so the content doesn't jump around while loading. On our website, one such version weighs 70 KB instead of 152 KB.
Lighter CSS and JavaScript
We remove unused style rules, combine files and defer non-urgent scripts. In the "head" of Saitai.lt pages, 10 CSS files went down to 3–4, and their size fell from 161 to 82 KB.
Browser caching
We set how long the browser may store images, fonts and scripts, so returning visitors don't have to download them again.
Fonts and icons
We load only the font styles you actually use, and cut the icon set down to the icons that are really displayed. On our own website, we kept 167 icons from the full set.
Server response time
We check the PHP version, database queries and plugins that slow down every request. On our own website, we found that the page builder converted each page to a newer format on every view – adding 0.2–0.3 s.
Only what the visitor needs
We no longer load admin and editor files for visitors, and images and videos further down the page load only when the visitor scrolls to them.
Testing and report
After the changes, we check the forms, menus, cookie banner and basket, and the report sets out what was done and how the metrics changed.
Price
How much does website speed optimisation cost?
Price from
€80
Website speed optimisation costs from €80. The final price depends on the website and the number of pages: sometimes sorting out the images and caching is enough, and sometimes the template or server settings need changing. After a free review of your website, within 1 working day we send you a summary of the measurements, a list of tasks, the exact price and the timeline. Individual tasks cost €30 per hour.
Prices include all taxes – no VAT is added (we are not VAT-registered). We write the price and the list of tasks into the contract before work starts.
What the price depends on
- The content management system, template and page builder: how many CSS and JavaScript files they load.
- How many plugins, third-party widgets (chat, maps, video) and analytics codes are installed.
- How many images have been uploaded and how large they are; for an online store, how many products and categories.
- What your hosting can do: PHP version, HTTP/2 support, server response time.
- Whether the website is maintained and up to date, or the CMS and plugins need updating first.
- How many different page types need optimising: home, service, category, product, article pages.
Additional costs
- If your current hosting is slow or doesn't support newer PHP versions, we suggest switching: hosting from €60/year for a website, from €70/year for an online store.
- If the CMS or template is too old, we optimise speed as part of a website redesign – from €299.
- To keep the website from slowing down again: in the Business (€69/month) and Premium (€149/month) maintenance plans, we check performance every quarter or every month.
Timeline
How long does website speed optimisation take?
Speed optimisation for a small website usually takes 5 working days; for an online store or a website with a complex template, 5–15 working days. The timeline starts once we receive access. We repeat the PageSpeed Insights lab measurements straight away, while the Search Console field data on real visitors updates over about 28 days.
| Task | What's done | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Initial review | measurements of the key pages, causes of slowness, a list of tasks | 1 working day |
| Small website | images, caching, CSS and JavaScript, fonts | from 5 working days |
| Online store or complex template | plus server response time, plugins, category and product pages | 5–15 working days |
| Repeat measurement | the same pages and tools as before the work | when the work is done |
Process
How it works
- Free review1 working day
Send us your website address – we measure the home page and 2–3 key pages and tell you what's slowing the website down most.
- Task list and price1–2 working days
We agree what we'll optimise, how much it will cost and how long it will take, and write it into the contract.
- Backup and staging copy1 working day
We back up the whole website and test the changes on a separate staging copy first.
- Step-by-step optimisation3–10 working days
We change one area at a time and measure after each change. If a change doesn't improve the result or breaks something, we drop it.
- Go-live and checks1 working day
We move the changes to the live website, check the forms, menus and basket, and repeat the measurements.
- Report and warranty12 months
We send you a comparison of the metrics and recommendations on keeping the website fast. For 12 months, we fix any bugs in our work free of charge.

Examples
Our website and typical situations
Saitai.lt: mobile LCP from 3.6 to 2.3 s
- Situation
- Our own Joomla website, built with a page builder, loaded too slowly on mobile: home page LCP was 3.64 s and the page weighed 1,105 KB. A general-purpose optimisation plugin we tried made the mobile results worse, so we dropped it.
- Solution
- For visitors, we created cleaned-up and combined CSS files, WebP versions of images, browser caching and a reduced icon set; we stopped loading the editor files and removed the conversion of pages to a new format on every view.
- Result
- Home page LCP on mobile – 2.32 s (best of 3 measurements), weight – 520 KB; PageSpeed Insights score on mobile – 91, and 96–100 on desktop for the pages tested.
An online store with a heavy slider
- Situation
- For example, a WooCommerce store's home page has a slider rotating five large images, and the categories show full-size product thumbnails.
- Solution
- We replace the slider with a single optimised image, resize the thumbnails and convert them to WebP, and load images further down only as the page is scrolled.
- Result
- A first screen that appears faster on mobile, and lighter category pages.
Too many plugins
- Situation
- For example, a company's WordPress website has built up dozens of plugins over several years: two caching plugins, several analytics and chat codes, and form tools no longer in use.
- Solution
- We switch off unused and duplicate plugins, keep one properly configured caching solution, and load third-party codes after the main content.
- Result
- A website the server generates faster, and one that's easier to maintain and update.
